Evan R. Hansen Legacy Foundation “Better Version of Yourself” Scholarship
The Evan R. Hansen Legacy Foundation will award a $3200 scholarship to a Guerin Catholic High School rising Senior who exudes the qualities of “becoming the best version of yourself.” After his first semester at Guerin Catholic, Evan chose to elevate his academic path to include all Honors classes instead of his Academic load. Little did we know at the time that Evan’s “all in” lifestyle, faith, family, friends, school, service, and sports, would lead to an early death and a diagnosis of CTE, a degenerative brain disease. It was almost like he knew he needed to use every moment to make the most of his God-given life.
Eligibility
-
Guerin Catholic student in good standing.
-
Evidence of improving GPA and/or consistently high GPA as shown on a transcript.
-
Evidence of participating and/or taking a leadership role in service to others.
The student must create and submit an original item, such as a short essay, story, or poem (250 word limit). Other ideas include, but are not limited to, music, visual artwork/design, or short film production that exemplifies how the choices you made throughout your years at Guerin Catholic High School moved you closer to becoming the person God created you to be. The student should also submit three anecdotal stories (50 words or less) written by two Guerin Catholic staff and one peer that supports the applicants continual striving to be a better person. The money will be paid directly to Guerin Catholic High School from the Evan R. Hansen Legacy Foundation.
Evan R. Hansen Legacy Nursing Endowed Scholarship at Marian University
The Evan R. Hansen Legacy Nursing Endowed Scholarship was established in 2022 at Marian University. Marian University’s mission and vision are to be a great Catholic University who prepares transformational leaders for service to the world. The scholarship fund, which was established by the Hansen family and their family foundation, supports aspiring nurses within the Leighton School of Nursing at Marian University. In an effort to capture Evan’s spirit of service, recipients of this scholarship must be admitted into the Leighton School of Nursing AND embody the Franciscan values with a commitment to serve the underrepresented.
For questions about the scholarship fund please contact Nick Torres ntorres@marian.edu / 317-955-6614.
Future Wabash Scholarship
2024 golf outing proceeds are earmarked to fund a Wabash need based scholarship for a Spanish major or a Pre-Medical Professional. After graduation from Wabash College, Evan was planning a career in the medical field. He was majoring in Spanish, so that he could better serve that community. He spent his 2018 Spring Semester in Valencia, learning Spanish medical terminology.
That summer he interned at the Merciful HELP Center in Carmel, and also at the Kaseman community health clinic near Washington DC, where he translated between Hispanic patients and doctors. In his memory, the Foundation will use funds from this Golf Tournament to establish a perpetual, endowed scholarship at Marian University. Special consideration will be given to a student that embodies the Franciscan value of Dignity of the Individual, and who has demonstrated a commitment to serve the underrepresented.
